William Eckenwiler

 

William Eckenwiler, Ed.D., is a distinguished educator, administrator, and literacy expert with a career spanning over three decades of academic leadership. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University, Bill dedicated a decade to the classroom, teaching fourth and sixth grades. His commitment to educational excellence led him to the Reformed Theological Seminary, where he earned dual Master’s degrees in School Administration and Christian Education.

Dr. Eckenwiler spent twelve years teaching at the seminary and university levels while completing his Doctorate in Reading Education at the University of Central Florida. A recognized authority on diverse learning environments, he chose homeschooling as the focus of his doctoral dissertation—an expertise he expanded upon in his book, A+ Education: Choosing the Best School Option for Your Child, which provides a comprehensive look at homeschooling, private, and public education.

Throughout his career, Bill has shaped the next generation of educators at the University of Central Florida, Geneva College, and Barton College. Having successfully graduated two homeschool students alongside his wife, Kristen. He remains deeply active in the broader educational community, providing specialized testing, tutoring, and curriculum resources designed to support educators and students at all grade levels through their company, The Struggling Reader, Inc.

Kristen Eckenwiler

 

Kristen Eckenwiler, M.Ed., is a seasoned educator, educational consultant, and literacy specialist who brings a wealth of academic rigor and "in-the-trenches" experience. A graduate with honors from the University of Central Florida, Kristen earned both her Bachelor’s in Education and her Master’s in Reading. Her extensive background includes teaching at all grade levels and instructing at the collegiate level, as well as contributing to vital literacy research for the Voyager and Literacy First Reading Programs.

Having successfully graduated two homeschool students, Kristen has since returned to the classroom, where she continues to apply her deep expertise in literacy and learning disabilities. A sought-after speaker at conferences around the USA, she remains a passionate advocate for students of all abilities. Alongside her husband, she remains active in the broader educational community, providing specialized testing, tutoring, and curriculum resources designed to support educators and students at all grade levels.
